Abstract
The study aims to identify the levels of emotional deprivation and the need for love, as well as the relationship between them, among a sample of students at Yarmouk University. The study sample consisted of 1206 students (male=34.7%, female= 65.3%), selected using a convenience sampling method. To achieve the study objectives, an Emotional Deprivation Scale and a Need for Love Scale were developed. The results indicated that the levels of emotional deprivation and the need for love among university students were high. The findings also revealed statistically significant differences in emotional deprivation attributed to the gender variable, while no significant differences were found for other independent variables (academic field, academic degree). Regarding the need for love, no statistically significant differences were found for any of the independent variables (gender, academic field, academic degree). Furthermore, the results showed a positive relationship between emotional deprivation and the need for love.
