Abstract
The study aimed to identify the level of academic resilience and its relationship with preventative and progressive mentalities among Hashemite University students. It also aims to uncover differences in academic resilience attributed to gender and college variables. The study was conducted on a sample of (582) students selected purposively. Two instruments were used for data collection: the Academic Resilience Scale and the Preventative versus Progressive Mentalities Scale. Results indicated that the mean scores of participants' responses regarding the domains of academic resilience were high, with the highest being in the domain of reflection and seeking adaptive help, followed by perseverance, and the lowest in the domain of negative influence and emotional response at a moderate level. The results also showed that both progressive and preventative mentalities were at a high level. Furthermore, there were no differences in the level of academic resilience and both the reflection and seeking adaptive help and negative influence and emotional response domains attributed to gender, while differences existed in the level of perseverance domain attributed to gender in favor of males, and no differences in the level of academic resilience and all its domains attributed to college variable, with a positive correlation found between academic resilience and both preventative and progressive mentalities.
